DescriptionSen. Jim King will undergo surgery as part of his battle with cancer, according to an e-mail from his wife to supporters.

"We have decided to take the surgical route since it offers, potentially, the best chance for a longer life," Linda King wrote. "The surgery is very difficult, and the recovery even more so, but we have faced adversity before and won, and we have faith that we will this time as well."

Linda King said the procedure, which will take place at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, has not been scheduled, "but it will be soon."

Jim King, R-Jacksonville, announced earlier this month that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, one of the most aggressive forms. The former Senate president, serving his last term in the Legislature, caught colleagues and observers off-guard when he announced that a post-legislative session checkup uncovered the disease.
