DescriptionMONTGOMERY - Republican state Sen. Charles Bishop, who made international headlines for throwing a punch at a fellow senator two years ago, said today he won’t seek re-election next year.

Bishop, 71, has served three non-consecutive terms in the Senate, and also was state agriculture commissioner for one term. He also ran for governor.

“I have been blessed in my life,” Bishop said in a statement. “I have lived the American dream, and that dream for everyone is now in danger on both the national and state level, somewhere government lost its way.”
