Description | A lawmaker on Tuesday accused the Missouri Gaming Commission of “fabricating” its latest revenue report for the state’s 12 riverboat casinos.
Rep. Ray Salva, a Sugar Creek Democrat, said he didn’t know how commission officials did it, but sharp increases in casino revenues and admissions reported Tuesday couldn’t be correct because the nation’s entire economy was in the tank.
“When the whole country is down, the Missouri Gaming Commission comes up and says gaming had a big increase,” said Salva. “C’mon.”
LeAnn McCarthy, a spokeswoman for commission director Gene McNary, said: “Part of the Missouri Gaming Commission’s responsibility is auditing tax collections from each of the riverboat gaming casinos. We audit these numbers daily and reconcile them with the Missouri Department of Revenue.”
The state agency on Tuesday reported gambling revenues statewide were up 10 percent over January 2008, to $145.7 million. |
