Description | Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is just a few days into her new job, but already there is speculation on whether she will face a challenge in the 2010 Republican gubernatorial primary if she opts to run.
U.S. Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., is pondering a run for governor, according to sources familiar with the matter. The Mesa conservative was elected to Congress in 2000 and has fought government spending during his tenure there.
Flake, 46, was critical of spending measures when a Republican Congress and the Bush administration were in charge of Washington, and he faces a greater underdog fight with Democrats building up on their majority and President Barack Obama taking over the White House, promising what could be a $1 trillion economic spending push. |
