DescriptionPHOENIX — With President Obama’s inauguration Tuesday, and Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano’s subsequent confirmation as U.S. secretary of homeland security, the dominoes have fallen, landing Secretary of State Jan Brewer as the state’s new governor.
Napolitano’s staff delivered a pre-written, pre-signed resignation letter to Brewer just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, making Secretary Brewer now Gov. Brewer.
Because Napolitano’s departure had been known for nearly two months, Brewer’s transition team had scheduled an inauguration at 3 p.m. Wednesday in front of the historic state Capitol. That event, essentially ceremonial, will proceed as planned.
