Description | The race by Democrats to replace the late Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones on the Nov. 4 ballot became more complicated Tuesday following an effort intended to streamline the contest.
Eight people are still chasing the seat despite an endorsement by a self-appointed committee led by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and former Congressman Lou Stokes.
Just after midnight Monday, the committee endorsed Warrensville Heights Mayor Marcia Fudge, a close friend of Tubbs Jones who once served as her chief of staff in Congress.
Cuyahoga County's Democratic Party executive committee members who live in Tubbs Jones' 11th Congressional District -- about 330 people -- will pick her replacement Thursday night.
The endorsement came about an hour after a committee of 19 people completed interviewing each of the candidates for 30 minutes. |
