DescriptionA screening committee that met in secret Monday to recommend a replacement for the late U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones chose Warrensville Heights Mayor Marcia Fudge.

The committee included 19 community leaders who interviewed eight candidates.

The committee was composed of: Rose Bardwell; the Rev. E.T. Caviness of Greater Abyssinian Baptist Church; Margot Copeland, of KeyCorp; Brian Hall; Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson; the Rev. Frederick Knuckles; Alan Krulak of Forest City Enterprises; the Rev. Larry Macon Sr.; the Rev. C.J. Matthews; East Cleveland Council President Gary Norton; Bishop F.E. Perry; political consultant Arnold Pinkney; Cleveland Councilwoman Sabra Scott-Pierce; Sandy Smith; retired Rep. Louis Stokes; Cleveland Municipal Court Clerk Earle Turner; South Euclid Mayor Georgine Welo; Andre White; and the Rev. Claudie Williams.

Those who want to replace Tubbs Jones in Congress are Fudge; Jeffrey Johnson of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus; the Rev. Marvin McMickle pastor of Antioch Baptist Church; former Cleveland Councilman Bill Patmon; C.J. Prentiss education adviser to Gov. Ted Strickland; state Appeals Court Judge Melody Stewart; and Cleveland Municipal Judge Michael Ryan and Shawn Henry Ryan.

A committee of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party will select one of the candidates to replace Tubbs Jones on the Nov. 4 ballot.
