U.S. Rep. Cass Ballenger is about to get some serious primary opposition, amid growing speculation that the Hickory Republican is considering not running again. George Moretz, the chairman of Carolina Mills, will announce Nov. 6 in Hickory that he is challenging the nine-term congressman. Moretz has hired Carter Wrenn, the longtime Raleigh political strategist for former U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms, to advise his campaign.
