DescriptionBob Roggio, the retired business executive from Charlestown Township who hopes to take Republican Jim Gerlach’s 6th district congressional seat this fall, is now running uncontested in the Democratic primary.

The other two candidates who had their names on the ballot have withdrawn from the race, citing the need for the party to unify and focus its efforts on defeating Gerlach.

“We had a situation where neither I nor Bob Roggio had enough name recognition in this district,” said Mike Leibowitz, the restoration contractor from Lower Merion who announced Monday that he was leaving the race. “To ask Democrats to support two candidates, to give funds to two candidates, was too much.”
