Tony Knowles raised almost half a million dollars in his first three months on the U.S. Senate campaign trail, according to his spokesman.
Knowles, Alaska's Democratic governor from 1994 to 2002, collected just more than $475,000 between July 8, when he announced his candidacy, and Sept. 30, said Bob King.
Knowles' effort roughly matched that of Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska. Murkowski said on Oct. 3 that she had met her third-quarter goal of $500,000, bringing her overall fund-raising total to about $1.5 million.
Knowles could not raise money until he notified the Federal Election Commission in July that he would run, almost guaranteeing a fund-raising gap at this stage in the race.
"I think we will close it," King told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. "We will remain competitive in this race. I think the funding is there and I think the strong first quarter results indicate it will be there." |
