Description | "A local assemblyman seeking re-election and a candidate for state Senate have been boasting in recent campaign ads that they're endorsed by the South Jersey Taxpayers Association.
But the group, which is backing Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew in the 1st District and Senate hopeful Fred Madden in the 4th District, isn't as influential as its name may imply.
The group was formed less than a month ago and has only three members -- Collingswood banker Gerard Banmiller, his daughter and his wife.
Van Drew, who's been touting the endorsement in recent radio ads promoting his fiscal policies, said he didn't know anything about the group -- including its three-person membership -- until The Daily Journal inquired Monday. He said he relies on his campaign staff to check out endorsements."
