Description | Governor-elect Bobby Jindal says Democratic state Senator Joel Chaisson (CHA'-sun) has enough votes to be the Senate's next president, and Jindal says he supports Chaisson for the job.
The announcement today inserts Jindal into the haggling for legislative leadership, giving Chaisson the backing of the next governor to hang onto the votes needed for the position, two months before the Senate will elect its leadership.
But Jindal says he didn't push for Chaisson to get the job. He says he waited for the Senate to form a consensus around Chaisson and for Chaisson to have enough votes for the post.
After Chaisson reached the majority vote needed to win an election for the Senate presidency, Jindal says he was asked by senators to affirm the selection. |
