The closing speed of Max Phillips in the Republican primary for agriculture commissioner.
There’s a lot of reasons to take a look at incumbent Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Lester Spell and think that he’ll eke out a victory in the GOP primary.

Democratic nominee Rickey Cole — the former head of the Democratic Party in Mississippi — got a far better response this year at Neshoba than Spell did.
The truth is that even Constitution Party challenger Paul Riley had more applause lines than did Spell.
Phillips, Cole and Riley pounded on Spell about the spectacular failure of the $55 million Mississippi Beef Processors plant in Oakland. Cole even passed out fly swatters as his political gimmick, saying: “Any time you’ve got rotten meat, you’re bound to have some blow flies.”
The crowd roared — and while they gave Cole his due for getting off a good attack line, the crowd wasn’t laughing about the issue. |
