Description | "September 30 - While some party leaders were quick to line up behind her last week, the numbers just aren't adding up for Assemblywoman Linda Stender (D-Fanwood) in her bid to replace Joseph S. Suliga as the Democratic Party's state Senate nominee in the 22nd District.
As Wednesday's special election convention draws near, key powerbrokers in the district are siding with Stender's opponent, Union County Freeholder Nicholas P. Scutari, who now may have the necessary votes to secure the Democratic nod.
Scutari, who entered the race with the backing of party leaders from Linden, including Suliga, has picked up support from the most powerful Democratic official in Plainfield, the district's largest city, and also appears to be making inroads in another key city, Rahway."
