Description | Former U.S. Rep. Bob Ney, who left office just before the midterm November elections for his role in a congressional bribery scandal, was sentenced in federal court Friday to 30 months in jail.
The U.S. District judge said Ney's actions were a "significant, serious abuse of the public trust."
Prosecutors had said they would seek a prison term of up to 27 months and $60,000 in fines at sentencing; Ney's lawyers had asked U.S. District Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle for no more than two years in prison for their client.
