Description | Premier Pat Binns spent the long weekend moving his daughter, Lilly, to university. Then he came home, visited the Lieutenant Governor, and on Tuesday night called Islanders to the polls for Sept. 29.
It marked the start of the 37th general election on Prince Edward Island, and the end of a summer that saw parties gearing up while the Tory government worked to cover off any political problems that might stop Binns from making political history.
If handed a mandate, Binns will be the first modern-day Conservative premier to be elected three times in a row.
The party's slogan, "let's keep building," indicated the Tory record will be the cornerstone of the campaign.
"We've got a job to do to convince Islanders they should continue to leave thier trust with us," Binns said moments after announcing the election. "We're going to work hard at that and if everything works out we'll be sucessful." |
