Description | A few feet away from Larry Borst on July 15 at Butler’s Atherton Auditorium sat a young, clean-cut man named Brent Waltz. Borst was taking part in The Indianapolis Star/WTHR town hall meeting on the skyrocketing property tax rates. Waltz was off-camera and had never seen anything like it before.
“It was surrealistic,” he said of the 300 people in the audience, un-miked by the television station, groaning, complaining, hooting and muttering throughout the entire hour. “There were politicians there who have never seen that kind of fervor and outrage on one issue.”
Waltz, a 29-year-old medical courier company executive, investment banker and president of the Johnson County Council, hopes to use that discontent in his challenge to State Sen. Larry Borst, in the May 2004 Republican primary. |
