With the election of 32-year-old Donald Dunn as state party chairman and 29-year-old Carlos Vasquez as secretary, grass-roots leadership is at its youngest ever.
And while Dunn dismisses age as irrelevant, observers insist otherwise.
Republican foes are quick to warn his youth could lead to mistakes. But Democratic loyalists of all ages say Dunn will bring new energy to the party through the recruitment of younger voters. Assuming he succeeds, they say, his leadership could spell the beginning of a statewide revolution in political strategizing and norms. Who knows, Utah might even be on the leading edge of a national political juvenescence.
Dunn is the youngest state party head in the nation, according to the previous holder of the title, 32-year-old Oklahoma Democrat Jay Parmley: "He beat me by something like a month."...
