"Gov. Phil Bredesen, sidelined more than a week by a fever and flu-like symptoms, has decided to travel to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for more tests.
Bredesen is improving, but doctors have not been able to pinpoint the cause of his illness, administration spokesman Bob Corney said.
Bredesen, 62, spent four nights at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville for what doctors said might have been the effects of a tick bite. He returned home Friday.
Corney said the governor planned to fly today for a brief outpatient visit at the Mayo Clinic."
"Bredesen's illness brought attention to Tennessee's lack of a procedure for transferring control of state government if the governor becomes incapacitated. Under the Tennessee Constitution, Senate Speaker John Wilder, 85, would become chief executive if the governor dies, resigns or is removed from office. But there's no provision if the governor is disabled." |
