Description | Louisiana residents are under a heavy burden from state and local taxes, a national study shows, but federal taxes are light-weight.
The Tax Foundation, a nonprofit group that gathers information nationwide, said Louisiana residents' state and local tax burden, compared to the median income, is 11th highest in the nation. In federal taxes, the state ranks 49th, with only Mississippi residents having a lower federal tax burden.
