Description | MADISON, Wis. - The former Republican leader of the Wisconsin Assembly was sentenced Monday to 60 days in jail for putting a party fundraiser on the state payroll.
Former Assembly Majority Leader Steven Foti put partisan politics and "pure greed" ahead of the public interest, Circuit Judge Steven Ebert said.
Foti pleaded guilty in January to a misdemeanor ethics violation for putting Sherry Schultz on his payroll, a move aimed at giving Republicans an edge in the 1998 and 2000 elections. |
