Description | Bucks County Courier Times article.
An excerpt...
"Two of the three candidates seeking the Democratic nomination in the Bucks County congressional race have voted in fewer than one-third of the elections over the past 10 years, according to county election board records.
In separate phone interviews Wednesday, both - Patrick Murphy and Fred Viskovich - characterized their lack of attendance at the polls as "mistakes" and "lapses in judgment."
Both are campaigning to face Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, R-8, in November's general election.
Since they registered to vote, both Viskovich and Murphy have been absent from the polls in the majority of public elections, according to elections records.
Viskovich, 55, of Lower Makefield, voted in three of his last 16 chances to pull the lever in a public election. That's less than 19 percent of the elections he was eligible to vote in, election records show.
Viskovich didn't register to vote until February 1998, when he was 47, according to voting records.
"Like many Americans, I chose unwisely to not vote on some dates, on other dates I was out of town or busy raising a family of five," Viskovich said. "I've been a sinner and I ask forgiveness from the electorate."
Murphy, 32, of Bristol Township, voted in six of his last 19 chances at the polls. That's less than 32 percent of elections he was eligible to vote in, according to voting records. Murphy registered to vote in September 1996, when he was 22, according to voting records." |
