Description | It's not official yet, but it looks likely that New Orleanians will finally get to vote for mayor, City Council members and other local officials April 22.
Secretary of State Al Ater told a federal judge Wednesday that an election on that date is feasible and that he intends to propose it to Gov. Kathleen Blanco.
U.S. District Judge Ivan Lemelle appeared to endorse the April date, and he warned that if the state has not set a date by next week, he's prepared to order an election on that schedule.
