DescriptionThe two men who want to replace Rep. Robert Menendez in the House of Representatives were already working the crowds at Liberty State Park on Friday - even before Menendez was named as Jon Corzine's replacement in the U.S. Senate.

As Corzine made the announcement in Jersey City, both Albio Sires and Joe Vas were jockeying for positions in front of the cameras next to Menendez and Corzine.

Sires, the Assembly speaker and mayor of West New York, got to stand on a stage during the speech - a sign of his leadership rank and his front-runner status. Vas, a state assemblyman and mayor of Perth Amboy, had to settle for joining Corzine and Menendez in a question-and-answer session with reporters.

Both men are likely to stage their own announcement ceremonies in the near future. But with a throng of reporters and television crews at their disposal, both veteran politicians did not waste the chance for free media exposure.
