Description | The Ontario government was dealt a devastating blow when Finance Minister Greg Sorbara stepped down late last night.
Sorbara told reporters he was resigning from cabinet at 10 p.m. Tuesday, just hours after he was named in a warrant as part of an ongoing RCMP fraud investigation.
Earlier in the day, the RCMP raided his family's real estate development company, the Sorbara Group. Investigators were executing a search warrant as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into Royal Group Technologies, a company where Sorbara had been a director.
Sorbara said he will fight the charges.
"A devastating mistake has been made,'' Sorbara said at a late-night news conference. "I want to tell you that I intend to get to the bottom of that." |
