In role reversal, Kathy Salvi to run for Congress [Il-08]

| Description | Calling herself "the candidate who can and will beat Melissa Bean," Republican lawyer Kathy Salvi launched her congressional campaign Tuesday, accusing the freshman Democrat of violating voters' trust by taking "a junket to Fort Lauderdale paid for by a private group."
"I guess it didn't take her too long to get Potomac fever," Salvi said.
Bean ousted veteran U.S. Rep. Phil Crane in the northwest suburban 8th Congressional District last year by portraying the Republican as "the junket king" for his travels around the world.
Salvi also criticized Bean for living in Barrington, just outside the district, and said Bean's "politics and her liberalism" don't fit the area.
Salvi, 46, has never run for office, but she has helped her husband, Al Salvi, in his failed bids for U.S. Senate and Illinois secretary of state. In her first foray, Kathy Salvi still seemed to still be getting up to speed.
Despite her criticism of Bean, Kathy Salvi could not provide specific votes cast by Bean she disagreed with. |
