Description | Gov. Phil Bredesen on Thursday asked President George W. Bush to declare a federal emergency for the entire state of Tennessee as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
Approval of this request would mean additional resources to assist with relief efforts both at home and in neighboring states impacted by the storm, as well as expanded services for hurricane refugees in Tennessee, officials said.
“I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the state and the affected local governments, and that supplementary Federal assistance is necessary to save lives, protect property, public health and safety,” Bredesen said in his letter to President Bush.
