CLP leader (Northern Territory) expects David and Goliath battle

| Description | Jodeen Carney is the new leader of the Northern Territory's Country Liberal Party (CLP).
The party's parliamentary wing has chosen the Member for Araluen to replace Denis Burke.
The Member for Katherine, Fay Miller, has been elected deputy and Richard Lim is the party whip.
Ms Carney says anyone who thinks the CLP is at an end after its devastating election loss, does not know what they are talking about.
She says her appointment was unanimous and the CLP is focused on rebuilding and winning the next election.
She warns there is no room in the party for infighting or egos.
Ms Carney says it will be a hard road ahead given the CLP only has four members in the 25-seat Parliament.
"We know that we have what can only be described as a David and Goliath struggle," she said.
Chief Minister Clare Martin has congratulated Ms Carney on her appointment
"Jodeen's a very good parliamentary performer, I think she's a very feisty performer and I wish her luck," she said.
The Northern Territory Greens leader, Ilana Eldridge, says it is good to see more women in key political roles.
The Northern Territory's three largest political parties are now headed by women. |
