Description | "RED BANK -- The tie and suit coat had come off for the first time during a full day as state Sen. John O. Bennett III walked through the crowd at the jazz and blues festival on the bank of the Navesink River on Friday.
As the musicians played onstage, the longtime incumbent weaved through mothers and fathers as they fed their children sausage-and-pepper sandwiches from one of the food stands. Rather than stop potential votes as they walked by, Bennett, R-Monmouth, sought out friends he'd made during his 23 years in office.
It didn't take long. The most powerful elected Republican in New Jersey, he was familiar with many of the local officials at the festival. Yet he also stopped to talk to a group of residents about their new home."
