Description | "It has been a campaign fraught with charges and countercharges between two former political allies.
State Sen. Nia Gill has linked her Democratic primary opponent, LeRoy Jones Jr., to being one of the major contributors to East Orange's financial mismanagement woes that almost bankrupted the city in the late 1990s.
Jones, a one-time assemblyman, has accused Gill of voting against a bill to provide community and victim notification when a sex offender is released from prison and opposing a bill to provide mandatory minimums for certain repeat sex offenders.
The contest in the state's 34th Legislative District primary is following a stormy course: candidates trying to distinguish themselves from their opponent with nasty mailings and personal attacks."
