Description | Republican Central Committeeman William Dam said he is interviewing a "short list" of candidates in the 8th Congressional District to attempt to retake the longtime Republican stronghold.
Dam said he has spoken with a half dozen candidates in Lake, Cook and McHenry counties and looks to speak to a half dozen more in search of the "perfect candidate" to face off against incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean.
Bean is in her first term after beating former U.S. Rep. Phil Crane, who held the seat for 35 years.
"I want to hit the ground running right after the April election," Dam said. "The state party has not been involved in primaries in the past, and I think that was always a mistake."
He said his short list includes McHenry state Sen. Pam Althoff, state Reps. Bob Churchill of Lake Villa, Mark Beaubien of Lake Barrington, Lake County Board member Bonnie Thomson Carter of Ingleside and Warren Township Supervisor Suzanne Simpson.
