| Description | Bredesen's artwork was featured twice on Christmas cards when Bredesen was Nashville mayor. This is the first year he has done a piece for a Christmas card as governor, press secretary Lydia Lenker said.
Gov. Phil Bredesen's Christmas card this year, depicting two pears, was hand painted by the chief executive.
The artistic governor said he chose pears because they are "cheerful and Christmas-y," she said. The original is an oil on canvas that Bredesen titled, Christmas Pears. Bredesen began painting in 1998 and only paints with oils, she said.
"He doesn't make himself out to be a great painter, but he has a lot of fun doing it," she said.
The cards from Bredesen and his wife, Andrea Conte, were sent to about 10,000 people, including friends, supporters, the media, members of his administration, boards and commissions and others, Lenker said. Copies of the card and a holiday greeting from Bredesen also have been included with state employees' pay stubs, she said. |
