Description | Gov. Jeb Bush suspended Miami Commission Chairman Arthur Teele Jr. from office Wednesday, three weeks after Teele was charged with assault for allegedly trying to force a police officer off the road.
Bush routinely suspends elected officials charged with felonies. Now city commissioners, with likely input from Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, must decide whether to replace Teele with a temporary appointment or hold a special election.
Depending on who replaces him, Teele's suspension could change the balance of power on the commission. Teele and Commissioner Tomas Regalado are often at odds with Diaz's administration, while the other three commissioners are Diaz allies. |
