| Description | The Mayor of Riga was known as the Commissary Mayor of Riga during the German Occupation (1941 - 1944) then the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Riga City Council of Workers' Deputies during the Soviet occupation (1944 — 1992). Position was eliminated effective February 25, 2020, then reinstated on October 2, 2020. The Mayor is chosen by majority vote of the Riga City Council to serve for four years. |
