Description | This riding has existed since the 1958 election. The central Winnipeg riding is immediately southwest of the downtown core. It runs south from the Assiniboine River in the north to the CNR Main Line in the southwest and Fleet Street in the southeast (east of Cambridge), from the CN and CP lines in the west to Cambridge in the southeast and Stafford in the northeast (north of Fleet St.). The riding includes many of Winnipeg’s oldest and most stately homes, including riverside mansions on prestigious Wellington Crescent. It includes the community of River Heights and part of Crescentwood.
The population in 2001 was 19,425. The average family income of $94,322 was the second highest among the province’s ridings. The unemployment rate was 3.5 per cent. The leading industry was health and social services (13.7%) followed by educational services (13.2%). |
