| Description | The rural riding of Kluane includes a half-dozen communities stretched out along the Alaska Highway from Whitehorse to the Alaskan border, with Kluane National Park at its centre. Haines Junction, with a population of 824, is the largest community in the riding. Also included are the north highway communities of Beaver Creek (pop. 111), Burwash Landing (pop. 85) and Destruction Bay (pop. 56) as well as Champagne and the subdivisions of Takhini River and Mendenhall. Three First Nations – Champagne and Aishihik, Kluane and White River – are located in the riding. Only the White River First Nation does not have a finalized land claim.
Tourism, transportation and a sporadic forestry industry all play a part in the local economy. |
