| Description | This riding takes in area in the north-central part of Vancouver.
It runs between Burrard Inlet in the north and East 16th Avenue/Grandview Highway in the south; between Victoria Drive/Commercial Drive/Powell Street/Victoria Drive in the east and Main Street/Union Street/Quebec Street/Keefer Street/Taylor Street/West Pender Street/Homer Street/West Cordova Street/Howe Street in the west.
Chinatown, Gastown, Strathcona, the Downtown Eastside and Mount Pleasant are communities in riding.
The riding includes single room occupancy residences of the Downtown Eastside, a residential district of bungalows on small lots, scattered strips of low rise apartments and condos.
In the 2006 census, the immigrant population was 39%; the visible minority population was 44%; 22% Chinese.
Rentals exceed owned dwellings by 74% to 26%.
This riding has the lowest average family income in the province.
In 2008 redistribution, kept 96% of the riding. |
