Description | This new riding north of Toronto contains part of the town of Richmond Hill. It is bordered by Highway 7 in the south and Gamble Road, Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road East in the north. It lies between Highway 404 in the east and Bathurst Street in the west.
In the 2001 census, 22 per cent of the population was ethnically Chinese, six per cent Jewish and 8.6 per cent Italian. Half the population consisted of immigrants.
Manufacturing and retail trade are the main employers, with strong printing and publishing, telecommunications and information technology sectors. Average family income is $89,329 and unemployment is 4.9 per cent.
The Richmond Hill riding was created in 2004 from 63 per cent of Oak Ridges riding. Oak Ridges was created in 1996 from portions of the York North and Markham-Whitchurch-Stouffville ridings. |
