Description | This is a largely rural riding in the southwest of Quebec, northwest of Montreal. It has Rivière-du-Nord as part of its southern boundary and contains the regional county municipality of La Rivière-du-Nord. The riding includes the communities of St-Jérôme, St-Hippolyte and Prévost.
Manufacturing is the main industry in this riding, followed by retail trade. Tourism and related industries are also important, due to numerous golf clubs and ski resorts in the area. The average family income is $52,617 and unemployment is 7.5 per cent.
More than 94 per cent of the population cited French as a mother tongue, while less than two per cent were English speakers. The total immigrant population is a little more than two per cent.
The riding of Rivière-du-Nord was created in the 2004 redistribution from 55 per cent of Laurentides, seven per cent of Berthier-Montcalm and eight per cent of Argenteuil-Papineau-Mirabel.
