| Description | This Surrey riding runs between the Fraser River in the north and the Serpentine River, 160th Street, 72nd Avenue and Fraser Highway in the south. The Langley-Surrey border is its eastern boundary, and the western boundary is formed by King George Highway, 88th Avenue, 152nd Street and Highway 1. It includes the central part of the Surrey District Municipality as well as Barnston Island and the Barnston Island reserve.
One-third of the people here are immigrants. Almost 20 per cent are of East Indian descent and six per cent are of Chinese origin.
Manufacturing and the service sector provide many jobs here. Slightly more than seven per cent of residents were unemployed in 2001. The average family income was $66,830.
In 1996, Surrey Central was formed through the merger of portions of Surrey North and Surrey-White Rock-South Langley. Then, in 2004, a smaller section of Surrey North was added to Surrey Central, creating Fleetwood-Port Kells.
