Description | This Toronto riding is bordered to the south by Lake Ontario, to the north by Sunrise Avenue and the Don River, the old border of Scarborough to the east (Victoria Park Avenue) and Coxwell Avenue to the west.
There are an almost equal number of renters and homeowners in the riding. The bulk of workers are in manufacturing, retail, health care and social services. Average family income is $73,372 and the unemployment rate is 6.5 per cent.
According to 2001 census data, the immigrant population is nearly 35 per cent, with Chinese, Italian and East Indian among the major ethnic groups.
In the 2004 redistribution, the riding added small areas from Scarborough, Don Valley East and Don Valley West. The Beaches riding was created in 1976, mainly from the former Greenwood riding and became Beaches-Woodbine in 1986. Part of Don Valley East was added in 1996.
