Description | Presidency established on July 9, 1826 when Chile became a Republic. President can only serve for four years by amendment to the Constitution in 2005, but may run again upon completion of successor's term. The Minister of the Interior serves as ex officio Vice President and next-in-line should the President pass on, become absent or incapacitated. |
