InfoAlison Anderson was born in Ikuntji (Haasts Bluff), growing up in a number of communities including Hermannsburg and Papunya. Alison’s family recognised the importance of a good education, with Alison moving to Alice Springs to undertake her formal schooling years.

Alison completed her primary schooling at Traeger Park and completed her secondary education at Alice Springs High and as a boarder at St Phillips College. In later years Alison obtained a Diploma of Community Management from Batchelor College.

Alison has worked for a range of government and non-government organisations in a number of senior positions.

A strong community person, fluent in several Aboriginal languages, Alison has spent her life trying to improve the conditions of people living in Central Australia.

Alison has served as a highly effective representative for Central Australia on the Aboriginal Development Commission and later as ATSIC Commissioner. Alison has also been a senior member of a number of influential boards including the:

* Desert Knowledge Co-operative Research Centre,
* Flinders University Centre for Remote Health,
* NT Government Indigenous Economic Strategy Task Force.

In her role as an ATSIC Commissioner since 1993 Alison has worked with the Macdonnell communities to improve housing, education, policing, roads and health services throughout Central Australia.

In 2004 Alison was selected by the Howard Government to represent Central Australia on the Round Table discussions on Aboriginal matters.

A keen sports person Alison excelled as a softballer playing for the Alice Springs Rebels. She now spends spends her spare time with her five children, grandchildren and her extended family across Central Australia.
