I’m now in my third term on the City Council. I’ve accomplished a lot of things during the past six years, working with my colleagues on the City Council, with our staff, and with the dedicated residents of our community.Since my top priorities include public safety, economic development, and housing, I’ll list just a few highlights in those areas. I have:
· established a program for public safety grants to help reduce crime
· spearheaded federal funding for our Weed & Seed programs
· created the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Court
· created the Wheatley Place Historic District
· co-sponsored Ferguson Road Initiative
· founder Tulisoma: South Dallas Book Fair
· founder SpringFest (a hunger relief event)
· begun new housing in the 10th Street Historic District
· increased business loans.
These are just a few of the initiatives we’ve completed that have benefitted District 7. There have been many others, and we still have more to do in the next two years.
I’ve served on the National League of Cities Board of Directors for several years, and I’m the current President of their National Black Caucus of Locally Elected Officials.
