Info | John was born in 1946. He was educated at Sir John Deane`s Grammar School, Northwich and the London College of Law.
He was elected as Member of Parliament for Ryedale in June 1987. John Greenway had previously fought only one other election, in 1985, when he was elected to North Yorkshire County Council as a county councillor. He was the Vice-Chairman of the North Yorkshire Police Authority, and also served on the Education, Schools and Public Protection Committees. He was also the Governor of 5 schools in the York area.
He served as a London policeman for five years from 1965 to 1970. On leaving the police he entered the insurance industry and in 1972 started his own firm of insurance brokers.
John is President of the Institute of Insurance Brokers and an honorary fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. Mr Greenway is also the Chairman of the Register of Exercise Professionals, and a Trustee of the National Playing Fields Association.
