InfoGeoffrey was born in 1953. He was educated at Tormore School Upper Deal in Kent, Eton College, Windsor, and Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester where he graduated as an Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. He is married with a son and a daughter.

Geoffrey's Experience

Geoffrey was Constituency Vice-Chairman of North Norfolk from 1984 and Chairman from 1986-91 whilst at the same time on Eastern Area Executive and Agricultural Committees. From 1990 he was European Constituency Vice-Chairman of Norfolk prior to his selection as Parliamentary Candidate for Cirencester & Tewkesbury.

Geoffrey was Member of Parliament for Cirencester and Tewkesbury from 1992-97. In May 1997 he was elected Member of Parliament for the Cotswold Constituency.

Since becoming a Member of Parliament he has been Secretary of European Affairs Back Bench and Secretary of Housing Improvement Committees; a Member of the Environment Select Committee; Vice-Chairman of the Charities Property Association; Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Rt Hon Douglas Hogg QC MP, the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; Chairman of the All Party Group on Population, Development and Reproductive Health; Secretary of the All Party Group on Population, Development and Reproductive Health; Vice-Chairman of the Small Business Bureau and European Atlantic Group.

Geoffrey was the author of a Bow Group paper entitled "Privatising the State Pension - Secure Funded Provision for All".

He has served as a Public Accounts Commissioner, and as a Member of the Public Accounts House of Commons Select Committee. In October 2001, he was appointed a Frontbench Spokesman for Transport, Local Government & the Regions. In June 2002, he became a Shadow Minister for Local & Devolved Government Affairs. Since March 2004, he has been an Opposition Whip.
