Info | Stuart was born on Friday 13th, in the July of 1962. His father came from Dundee and his mother from Birmingham, so he describes himself as a proud Scottish-English mongrel. He was raised in the West Midlands, but has now lived in Fife for more than one-third of his life.
From his comprehensive school, Stuart went on to study Physics at the University of Birmingham. Here he met his future wife, Liz, and they have been married, without children, since 1985. Liz is crazy about horses, one of the many things Stuart is allergic to.
Prior to becoming involved in politics, Stuart worked as a radio frequency engineer, firstly with Racal, the originators of Vodafone, and later with Andrew Antennas. In 1990 he set up his own consultancy company, Barns Brae Technology Limited, which was named after a hill near his Dalgety Bay home.
His business took Stuart to some very interesting places in the UK, Germany and Hong Kong. He worked up masts, on oil platforms and ships, and inside bridges and tunnels. Running BBT taught him a lot about running a small company in Britain.
In his spare time Stuart enjoys reading, travel, tennis, cycling, camping and skiing.
