Info | Alex has had involvement with the Liberal Democrats since he was an activist for the Alliance in the 1987 general election. He joined the Party in 2000 after a stint as sabbatical president of Aberdeen Univerity Students' representative council where he had an active role in the negotiations which ultimateley brought about the end of tuition fees in Scotland. He was subsequently employed by West Edinburgh Liberal Democrats where he co-ran their 2001 General election campaign that successfully returned John Barrett to Westminster.
In September 2001 he was appointed as national communications officer for the Scottish Liberal Democrats, responsible for national peacetime and election literature production. He was employed in this position until Christmas 2003, but still has an active role in the production of the party's campaign materials.
Alex now works as the policy and communications officer for Fairbridge in Scotland, a charity that specialises in re-engaging with hard-to-reach young people.
He was the Scottish Parliamentary candidate for Kirkcaldy in 2003 and was on the Mid Scotland and Fife list. He succeeded in increasing the vote to 12% and beating the Conservatives by moving from 4th to 3rd place. In addition to his work in Kirkcaldy, he is also ward organiser for Crail Liberal Democrats in his parental home village.
