Info | O'CONNOR, James, a Representative from Louisiana; born in New Orleans, La., April 4, 1870; attended the public schools and was graduated from the law department of Tulane University, New Orleans, La., in 1900; member of the State constitutional conventions in 1898 and 1913; served in the State house of representatives 1900-1912; assistant city attorney of Orleans Parish from 1918 until his resignation in 1919, having been elected to the United States House of Representatives; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Albert Estopinal; reelected to the Sixty-seventh and to the four succeeding Congresses and served from June 5, 1919, to March 3, 1931; unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1930; resumed the practice of law; served on the State attorney general's staff in New Orleans; died in Covington, La., January 7, 1941; interment in Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans.
