InfoJudge Anthony O. Calabrese, Jr. was elected to the Eighth District Court of Appeals in 2002 and began his term in February 2003. Judge Calabrese, a native Clevelander, is a graduate of Benedictine High School and John Carroll University. He received his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1961. Judge Calabrese was honored in 1999 by the Law School’s Alumni Association as a Distinguished Alumnus. He also serves as an Honorary Trustee for Cleveland-Marshall. He is the father of seven children and is married to Denise.

Before his election to the Appellate Court, Judge Calabrese served on the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, General Division, from February 1991 until January 31, 2003. Prior to his appointment to the bench by Governor George Voinovich, Judge Calabrese was in private practice. Additionally, he served as a member of the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority for ten years. He also served in the Ohio Legislature, where he was elected to three terms as a State Representative from Cuyahoga County, serving from 1960 to 1966.

Judge Calabrese has practiced law in Ohio for over 28 years. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a graduate of the National Judicial College and has served a Special Counsel for the Ohio Attorney General. Judge Calabrese is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Cleveland and Cuyahoga County Bar Associations as well as the Justinian Forum. He has been a member and has served in a variety of capacities in several legal and civic organizations.
